“And now let us welcome the new year, full of things that never were.”

Welcome to the 2018-2019 Academic Year!
We are so delighted you are part of our DePaul Counseling family. As we begin this academic year, let us be grateful for the all that has prepared us and for the opportunities that lie ahead of us.
As the Academic Unit Leader (AUL) this year, I will be in touch with you quarterly with updates and good news. The counseling program also shares announcements during the year through CSL News. Please be sure you have subscribed to CSL News at the following link: http://depaulcslnews.blogspot.com/
Let’s get started.
New Faculty. We are thrilled that we have two new faculty members joining our CSL team.
Dr. Jennifer Cannon joins us as an Assistant Professor in Counseling, is originally from Chicago, and received her PhD from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT). Her research interests include mindfulness, understanding various factors that impact counseling self-efficacy (e.g., mindfulness, attachment anxiety and avoidance, trauma), and integrating wellness-based and culturally competent interventions into counselor training programs. Dr. Cannon has worked as an assistant editor for the Counseling and Values Journal (CVJ) and is currently a member of the CVJ editorial board.

Dr. John Beckenbach is joining us from Saint John, IN as a Professional Lecturer in Counseling.  He received his doctorate in Counselor Education from Northern Illinois University in 2002.   John has been teaching in counseling programs for over 15 years and a practicing therapist for over 20 years.  Working from a post-modern position, his areas of emphasis include social justice issues and forgiveness and reconciliation processes.  His work also focuses on counseling with sexual assault survivors.  John is currently working on a book about creativity and innovation in counseling and counseling education and a documentary focused on resiliency in sexual assault survivors.  John currently serves as the director of the Oxford and Scotland Family Counseling Institute and guest editorial reviewer for the British Journal of Guidance and Counselling.  John is married with 2 children, Sebastian and Sasha.
