Job Posting: Education Specialist

Title of the position:  Education Specialist

Department/Program: Adolescent, Child

Reports to (to whom the person directly reports): Director of Education and Medical Director

Overall responsibility:
·         Send medical certification and release of information to home school 
·         Communicate with patients’ home schools
·         Coordinate assignments with the patients’ home schools
·         Provide parents/guardians with educational updates
·         Complete educational assessment with patients to determine academic needs
·         Create academic plans with patients as needed
·         Assist patients with executive functioning skills as needed\
·         Proctor school assessments as needed
·         Chart communication with parents, schools, and patients
·         Attend rounds daily
·         Participate in family sessions when appropriate to provide information about school progress
·         Provide insurance utilization team with educational updates
·         Meet with patients to prepare for school staffings
·         Coordinate and participate in school staffings and other school meetings when appropriate
·         Prepare proper documentation for school when patient returns
·         Update the team about transition plan and school staffing
·         Meet with IOP School Liaison to communicate transition goals
·         Attend weekly education team meetings
·         Participate in professional development activities

Key areas of responsibility:  Education

Consults with (those who the person works with on a regular basis): Staff Psychiatrists, Directors, Family Therapists, Staff Therapists/Psychologists, Neuropsychologist, Therapeutic Placement Consultant, Utilization Review, parents, school contacts, teacher aides, tutors, and coordinate with front desk staff.

Qualifications (necessary skills and experience required):
·         Masters level degree in the field of education
·         Experience working in a public school setting with students who have emotional disabilities
·         Knowledge of school systems and special education processes
·         Experience with classroom management
·         Experience with students and families in crisis
·         Excellent time management skills
·         Ability to juggle multiple demands simultaneously in a fast paced and changing environment
