TheNationalRunawaySafeline(NRS) is seekingqualifiedcandidatesforacrisis center internship position. NRS is the go to resource for runaway and homeless youth and their families. NRS with the support of more than 100 volunteers, makes 250,000 connections to help and hope through hotline, online and offline resources annually.

The crisis center intern will be responsible for handling crisis communications through our national hotline, and across digital platforms such as: live chat, email, and forum. They will also work on projects related to the individual’s skills and the agency’s needs. These tasks will allow interns to receive direct experience in assisting and empowering youth and families in crisis. Past projectshaveincluded scheduling outside speakers on relevant topics, updating and creating referral resources for our crisis center, co-facilitating training sessions and assisting other office staff.
Interns accepted for this internship will be required to complete the 40+ hour trauma sensitive solution-focused crisis intervention training programbefore handling crisis communications independently.

Students applying for the summer block internship should be:

• Interested in adolescent issues and have a background in psychology, sociology, social work or a human services related field
• Eligible to receive class credit from his/her academic institution
• Available for training in April, May, and June
• Available for a minimum of two and a half months, and complete a minimum of 220 hours for undergraduate and 450 for graduate.
• Agreeable toflexible scheduling, including day, evenings, and weekends

NRS offers financial stipends for select summer interns (a stipend of $500 or $1,000 depending on academic level and time commitment). The National Runaway Safeline established in 1971, serves as the federally-designated national communication system for homeless and runaway youth. NRS provides crisis intervention, referrals to resources, and education and prevention services to youth, families and community members throughout the country 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Children's Disaster Services Volunteer Training, May 11-12th


Children’s Disaster Services trains and certifies volunteers for specialized child care after disasters. CDS volunteers work cooperatively with the American Red Cross, providing a safe environment and a comforting presence for children impacted by traumatic events.
