Graduate Assistant Position


Northwestern University Fraternity & Sorority Life (FSL) is seeking an eager and energetic graduate student who has a passion for educating and supporting undergraduate students who are affiliated with social fraternities and sororities at Northwestern University.  At Northwestern University, approximately 40% of the undergraduate student population are affiliated with a fraternity and sorority from one of four governing councils, Interfraternity Council (IFC), Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), and Panhellenic Association (PHA).  Graduate Assistants work to support the holistic development of members within chapters as well as through advising the special interest group, GreekBuild and the honor society, Order of Omega.  In addition, this position will support thematic programmatic initiatives such as social justice education, harm reduction and risk management, and leadership development and community engagement.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: Campus Life is one of three units in Student Engagement, an area of Student Affairs

Reports to: Assistant Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life
Campus Life facilitates transformative experiences for students through a broad range of opportunities for learning and development. By engaging students in fraternity/sorority life, student organizations, leadership development, and within the community, we partner with students to explore and develop their potential.

Fraternity & Sorority Life serves as a liaison between the collegiate chapters, parents, alumni, Inter/national organizations, and Northwestern University. Our goal is to provide educational programs, services, and resources that encourage the growth and development of 46 chapters and its members.

PRIMARY FUNCTION(S):
Advising
Fraternity/Sorority Community Programming
Harm Reduction
General Expectations
1. Attends weekly staff meetings
2. Participates in training sessions to gain holistic knowledge of fraternity and sorority life.
3. Meets weekly with direct supervisor to discuss ongoing projects, responsibilities, hot topics, and student development theory as it pertains to their work.
4. Encouraged to attend programs through internship
5. Schedules office hours in the Fraternity & Sorority Life office (schedule flexible with student schedule)
6. Attend appropriate fraternity and sorority functions and campus events to maintain visibility/approachability.
7. Other responsibilities as assigned.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Provide guidance, in conjunction with the Assistant Director, to a governing council and/or honorary society.
• Provide guidance to fraternities and sororities, particularly in the areas of risk management, membership recruitment/intake and education, problem resolution, and community planning.
• Provide education for students, chapters, and student groups on topics, including but not limited to alcohol and other drugs, eating disorders, hazing prevention, sexual harassment and assault, and relationship violence.
• Assist in the coordination of major Greek initiatives such as Greek Week, Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic Recruitment, Officer Transitions, Greek Leadership Retreat, Greek Emerging Leaders, and Dillo Day.
• Participate with the staff members in the on-going strategic planning process.
• Attend appropriate fraternity and sorority functions and campus events to maintain visibility.
• Regularly collect and report appropriate and meaningful metrics to measure outcomes of Fraternity and Sorority Life.
• Other duties as assigned (student may seek out additional responsibilities to further develop their experience in concert with their supervisor).

Qualifications
• Enrolled in a master’s level graduate program
• Ability to accomplish goals and tasks in a fast-paced, teamwork environment

Graduate Teaching Support Assistant


 The Office for Teaching, Learning, and Assessment (TLA) is seeking a graduate student to fill the role of Graduate Teaching Support Assistant for the 2018-2019 academic year. The person in this role will support all faculty development programs in TLA. The Graduate Teaching Support Assistant maintains records for the faculty development programs offered out of TLA. They will work directly with the Assistant Director for Teaching Support, other members of TLA, and university faculty to further DePaul’s mission of enhancing academic quality and supporting educational innovation.  
This position would be perfect for a graduate student who is hoping to enter the field of higher education administration/college student development or is seeking  a position that will give them an opportunity to improve their data analysis and report writing skills.  

The person in this role will be compensated an with an hourly rate of $14 an hour and will receive a tuition waiver for 4 credits per academic quarter in the fall, winter, and spring. Interested graduate students can apply for the position on the campus job board.

General Summary:

Principle Duties, Responsibilities and Other Job Related Information:
Program Data Management: a) track and analyze all program records and data (e.g. schedule of program offerings,
attendance); b) compose annual program assessment reports) (50%).
Event Logistics: a) coordinate event logistics (e.g. room reservations, catering, assisting and communicating with
guest presenters); b) serve as on-site event coordinator for in-person faculty development events; c) assist with
professional development marketing efforts conducted in a variety of formats including email, social media, and print
(20%)
Program Outreach: a) communicate with and assist current and prospective program participants as needed (20%)
Other Tasks: a) conduct basic course set-up and content management tasks in DePaul’s learning management
system (10%)
Position Requirements (Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required):
▪ Passion for education, teaching, and student success (very strongly preferred).
▪ Strong written and oral communication skills.
▪ Comfortable speaking in front of large groups.
▪ Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, and especially Excel).
▪ Experience with Digication e-Portfolio and D2L platforms (preferred).
▪ Desire to work collaboratively on a team.
▪ Ability to work independently with little to no supervision.
▪ Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Position Qualifications (Minimum level of education and/or experience needed to be successful in the
position):
▪ Undergraduate Degree
▪ Data analysis and survey management using tools such as Google analytics, Wordpress traffic analytics, Survey
Monkey, and/or Qualtrics (1 year preferred)
▪ Social media marketing and account management using platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Hoot Suite, and/or
Sprout Social (1 year preferred)
▪ Teaching or tutoring (1 year preferred)
▪ Program/event coordination (1 year preferred)
▪ Customer service/support (1 year required)
Hour requirements/schedule:
Approximately 20 hours per week (regular hours at the Loop campus) to be determined with supervisor. Candidate
must also be available to travel to the Lincoln Park campus for program events (3-6 times per month). Availability on
Fridays and over the summer and school breaks preferred.
Compensation:
The person in this role will be paid $14 per hour and receive a scholarship in the amount of 4 credit hours per
quarter.

Second, conference volunteers are needed!  The 2018 NCACES Conference committee calls for student participants who would like to attend 2018 NCACES Conference, October 18-20, 2018 at Crowne Plaza Cleveland in Cleveland, Ohio and offer volunteer services. Students accepted as volunteers are expected to assist with the organization of the conference.  Students will be reimbursed $10/hour towards their conference registration for each hour volunteered. Volunteers will pay their registration fee prior to the conference and will be reimbursed once their volunteer hours are completed.
