and Research Grant Awards. The information can be found below.
NCACES Call
for General Awards
Deadline: 5:00 p.m. Central Time,
Tuesday, June 30, 2020
This is a call for nominations for the 2020-2021 NCACES General Awards,
which will be presented at the business meeting at the NCACES regional
conference, Omaha, Nebraska, October 15-17, 2020 or
alternative arrangements will be me made if necessary. For

Types of
Awards
The General Membership of NCACES has approved the
following list of nomination award categories:
(1) NCACES
Outstanding Professional Service Award: To honor a
professional who is an ally to the fields of counseling and counselor
education for outstanding service to NCACES or to the cause of
counselor education and supervision that is of regional and national
importance to the profession. Awardees do not have to be ACES or NCACES
members.
(2) NCACES
Outstanding Professional Teaching Award: To honor
excellence in teaching in a counseling, counselor education, or
counseling supervision program in the North Central Region.
(3) NCACES
Professional Leadership Award: To honor excellence in
leadership in counselor education and supervision of an officer,
committee person, or other major contributor at the national, regional,
or state level.
(4) NCACES
Research Award: To honor significant research in the
profession including the areas of counseling, counselor education, or
counselor supervision.
(5) NCACES
Outstanding Supervisor Award: To honor an individual in
NCACES who has demonstrated outstanding work as a supervisor in a
university, community/mental health counseling, or school setting.
(6) Deanna
Hawes Outstanding Mentor Award: To honor an individual
in NCACES who has been a significant mentor to graduate students,
emerging professionals, educators, and/or supervisors in the manner
demonstrated by Dr. Deanna Hawes over the course of her career in
counselor education.
(7) NCACES
Outstanding Diversity Award: To honor significant
multicultural contributions to the profession of counseling, counselor
education, or supervision.
(8) NCACES
Innovative Counselor Education Program Award: To honor
an outstanding, innovative, and/or unique counseling or counselor
education program at an institution in the NCACES Region. (Note:
Depending on the number and distribution of nominations, a Master’s
program and a Doctoral program may be recognized.)
(9) NCACES
Outstanding Graduate Student Award: To honor a graduate
student in NCACES who has provided outstanding leadership or service to
the profession at the state, regional, or national level that has promoted
the profession.
Guidelines for
Submitting a NCACES Award Nomination
Nominations for NCACES General Awards should follow the guidelines
below:
The process has two stages.
1. First, nominators should:
a. Carefully review the criteria for the award for which they are
making a nomination as well as the detailed rubric reviewers use to
score nomination proposals. The detailed assessment rubrics are found

b. Create one
combined PDF file that includes the nomination letter AND the
additional support letters. A letter of nomination that
clearly states the award for which you are nominating the person (or
program) and reasons why the individual (or program) is deserving of
the award. Two
additional letters (not more!) of support that clearly
state the award for which the person (or program) is being nominated
and reasons the individual (or program) is deserving of the award.
c. List the nominee’s correct contact information AND ACES membership number
(which is also their ACA number). This is in order for
the awards committee to verify the nominee is an NCACES members. All
nominees for individual awards except the Professional Service Award,
must be members of NCACES.
2. Secondly, complete the Online form document. The link is
here: http://www.ncaces.org/General/gsubmit/index.php
a. The form requires the nominator to input their contact information
AND the nominee’s contact information and ACES membership number.
b. The form requires the nominator to upload their combined PDF file
that contains their nomination and additional support letters.
c. Please also note that the content from nominations and supporting
letters may be released for awardees for press release purposes. You
have the option to indicate whether or not we can release your names
and affiliations.
3. ALL NCACES General Awards nominations are due by Tuesday,
June 30, 2020, at 5:00 p.m. CENTRAL time. At that time, the form will
close.
4. The General Awards Committee will review and score all
proposals. For objectivity, all names will be redacted for a blind
review by the reviewing awards committee.
5. BOTH nominees and nominators will be apprised of their status
by Saturday, August 15, 2020. Those who are given awards should be
present to receive them OR designate a representative to attend the
NCACES Business Meeting at the NCACES Regional Conference in Omaha,
Nebraska. Alternative arrangements will be made if necessary.
6. Questions should be directed to Drew Clay, Member at Large

7. If no nominations are received within certain categories,
those awards will not be awarded for that year. Incomplete nominations
will not be considered.
2020 NCACES
Research Grant Awards
Call for
Proposals
DEADLINE 5:00
p.m. Central Time, Friday June 26, 2020
Purpose: The
purpose for this call for proposals is to fund studies that increase
understanding of the counselor education profession (including
research, teaching, supervision, leadership and advocacy). Research
grant awards will be presented at the business meeting at the NCACES
regional conference, in Omaha, NE during the Business meeting at noon
on Friday October 16, 2020. Awardees should be available to receive
them OR designate a representative to attend.
* In the event that the conference will be cancelled, award winners
will be announced and awards either mailed or presented at the ACES
conference in Oct 2021.

Who May Apply:
The competition is open to both professional and student members of
NCACES. The primary investigator must be an ACES/NCACES member at the
time the application is submitted. Individuals may submit (or be part
of a submission team) for only one proposal. Multiple submissions by
any researcher (individually or as part of multiple research teams)
will not be accepted.

Proposal Format:
• Typed in 12 point font, Times New Roman, double spaced, with one-inch
margins.
• The Proposal document may be a maximum of four pages. Attachments
submitted as part of the proposal beyond the 4 page limit will not be
reviewed by the committee.
• The “blind” title page and the title page with author identification
do not count in the 4 page maximum
• References may be added in addition to the 4 page limit.
• Submitted documents must be in EITHER Microsoft Word or PDF. NO OTHER
FORMAT WILL BE ACCEPTED.

Deadline for
Submission: The deadline for submission is 5:00 p.m. Central Time,
Friday June 26, 2020
Applicants will be notified on
or before July 17, 2020 as to the status of their
submissions.
Research grant awards will be presented at the business meeting at the
NCACES regional conference, in Cleveland, Ohio during the Business
meeting at noon on Friday, October 19, 2018. Awardees should be
available to receive them OR designate a representative to attend.
Amount of Funding: The research awards committee and NCACES will
allocate funds based on the number of and level of excellence of
research award proposals. Awards can be funded up to the amount of
$750, and lesser amounts may be awarded.
Deadline for
Claiming Research Awards: Individuals and teams
MUST have completed IRB/Human Subjects Review AND claimed their award
by May 1 of 2021. NO MONIES WILL BE DISTRIBUTED AFTER THAT TIME.
Research Award Submissions
Research award proposal submissions occur in a two stage process.
Proposals must be submitted via the process below. Faxed and mailed
“hard” copies of proposals will not be considered. Proposals containing any
identifying information outside of the title page will not be
considered. PLEASE double check your document for identifying
researcher or university identifiers.
1. Completion of the online form which requires individual researcher
and team researcher(s) contact information, principal investigator
ACA/ACES/NCACES membership #, and information regarding financial need
and a statement as to the planned distribution of results. Link to the

2. Submitting the research proposal either via uploading on the online
form OR directly emailed to Dr. Ashley Cosentino, NCACES

• A title page with the TITLE of the proposal only (the “blind” title
page)

Evaluation
Criteria: Research proposals will be evaluated by
a panel of reviewers using the following criteria:
Qualifications
of the Researcher:
•The researcher is a regular member or student member of ACES and
NCACES, and the researcher has submitted only one proposal for funding
in this year’s grant program.
Quality of the
Proposed Research:
•Proposed topic is within the scope of Counselor Education and
Supervision (20 points possible)
•Relevance of research to Counselor Education & Supervision as
evidenced by the literature review (25 points possible)
•Research Methodology (i.e. the methodology proposed follows accepted
practice for research of that kind) (25 points possible)
•Applicable ethical standards for research with human subjects (15
points possible)
Financial
Need:
•Clear, itemized, and research-focused budget (10 points possible): The
budget for the research project seems sound given the nature and scope
of the proposed project (only the expenses budgeted for the actual
conducting of the study will be considered; travel or presentation
expenses will not be considered), and the project is not substantially
supported by any other funding source (budget statements must include a
statement of other funds being used to support the project).
•Funds may not be used for time compensation, including GA work, unless
you provide the “employee” with a 1099 Form submitted to the IRS, so
that they are taxed appropriately. The budget may include payment for
time if the recipient (e.g., transcription company, statistical
consultant) accounts for the self-employment or business income and
provides a receipt. Receipts must be maintained by the Primary
Researcher and made available should ACES request the records.
Distribution
of Results:
A clear, feasible, and appropriate plan for distribution of research
findings (5 points possible). As a condition of the acceptance of the
grant award, the researcher is required to complete one of the
following by October 30th of the next academic year after receiving
your award:
• Provide a copy of the proposal to present the research results as a
poster session at the ACA Conference or ACES National Conference;
• Provide a copy of the proposal to present the research results as an
education session at the ACA Conference or ACES National Conference;
• Provide to the Research Grant Committee Chair a copy of the
manuscript of the research results that has been submitted to a
refereed journal for publication consideration.
e. “Acknowledgment of Support” Agreement: The researcher will include
an acknowledgment of NCACES financial support of the project in all
reports, presentations, or publications related to the supported
project.
