Hello
students!
We have
been hearing questions regarding the changes to practicum and internship and
how this may influence a student’s course planning. As you know, we are very excited
about the brand new state-of-the-art training facility, the Education and
Counseling Center (ECC). Over the next
two years, we are phasing in a new process for practicum and internship. Essentially, students will take a one-quarter
practicum in the ECC (100 hours total) followed by a full year (3-quarters)
internship experience at an external site (600 hours total). This email summarizes the changes that will be
occurring and who is going to be impacted by this change. Please note that we highly recommend that you meet with your faculty advisor
regarding your course planning to insure you are fully on track to graduate
on-time. It is your responsibility to reach out to your advisor.
Students planning on graduating in June of 2015, must take Practicum
and Internship during Fall 2014 to Spring 2015 at an external site. You should already have an internship site
and have been in contact with Dr. Mason. Your program of study does not change.
Please refer to the Course Planning Guide titled EXTERNAL PRACTICUM in the Student Handbook Livebinder. Your sequence of classes would look
like this:

Students
planning on graduating in June of 2016 (approximately 2 years from now) have TWO
OPTIONS.
Option 1: You take a one-quarter
Practicum in the ECC during the Fall 2014, Winter 2015, Spring 2015, or Summer
2015 quarters. Next, you would have your internship at an external site during
Fall 2015 to Spring 2016. Please refer to the Course Planning Guide titled
PRACTICUM IN THE ECC in the Student Handbook Livebinder. Your sequence of
classes would look like this:
Course/Graduation

***Note*** The CSL 555 Internship III class is a
continuation of the CSL 554 Internship II class allowing students to complete
the internship experience over 3-quarters.
CSL 555 Internship III is a course that would be zero credit hours and
no tuition would be paid. There would be a small registration fee (currently
$25) if this is the only course taken during that quarter, though students must
pay this fee every quarter when taking classes.
Option 2: You may take Practicum and Internship during Fall
2015 to Spring 2016 at an external site. Please refer to the Course Planning Guide
titled EXTERNAL PRACTICUM in the Student Handbook Livebinder. Your sequence of classes would look
like this:

For
any student entering the program starting in Fall 2014 or later, you are
required to take Practicum in the ECC. Please refer to the Course Planning
Guide titled PRACTICUM IN THE ECC in the Student Handbook Livebinder.
The
Fall quarters of 2014 and 2015 are the last quarters students will be able to
take practicum at an external site. Otherwise, students will be required to
take Practicum in the ECC. It is your responsibility to reach out to your
advisor.
