Loop Community Service and Outreach Coordinator
General Summary:
The Division of Mission and
Ministry seeks a student to help lead our Loop Community Service outreach. This initiative is aimed primarily at students
at the Loop campus. It strives to build,
sustain and enhance regular community service emanating out of DePaul’s Loop community. The ideal student worker will use their
skills to develop good working relationships with the community sites; recruit
and organize volunteers; accompany volunteers to sites; facilitate community
building and reflection; create learning objectives and assessment tools; input,
synthesize and report on data and assume other responsibilities necessary.
The ideal student will also be
open to learning about how to best work with and program for a diverse pool of
students (undergrad/graduate/international/commuter/adult/etc.). The position may also require presence at
orientations and engagement fairs, online outreach, and some marketing.
We especially welcome applicants
who desire making non-profit and mission-based work, services to the low income
and marginalized, community organizing and/or volunteer coordination a part of
their professional portfolio. Moreover,
we seek mature, self-aware people who have insight into her or his own
motivation for serving others and are eager to help DePaul students discern the
same. Social justice, spiritual
exploration, diversity, service, administrative
skills and community-building are all themes that will play a part in this
endeavor. The ideal candidate will not
only have an appreciation for these themes but also balance this with the
strong interpersonal, administrative and organizational skills necessary to be
successful at this position. We seek qualified
graduate/professional students who are able to commit a total of 20 hours per
week dedicated to seeing that DePaul’s mission of service is fulfilled at the
Loop campus.
Principal Duties and
Responsibilities:

Contribute to the strategic vision and plan for
high quality, regular and sustainable community service opportunities from
DePaul’s Loop campus.

Lead in building an effective partnership with
community organizations and with DePaul University partners.
·
Help to establish volunteer operations and then
recruit volunteers for once a week service, as well as occasional service days,
at various locations in Chicago.

Work closely with Loop Chaplains and other Division
of Mission and Ministry staff to ensure that Loop Community Service is well
integrated into the Division of Mission and Ministry and DePaul communities (including
Student Affairs and academic units) and that tenets of service, spirituality,
community and social justice and reflection are integrated into the volunteer
experience.

Open to exploring other means (on-line, social,
spiritual) of building community and enhancing connection to DePaul’s
Vincentian identity with Loop-based students.

supervisors, partners and volunteers.

Position Qualifications:
·
Must be a student in good standing at DePaul
University. Graduate and professional
students, adult students, international students and students who are familiar with the Loop campus and community
are especially encouraged to apply.

Ability to creatively reach out to the DePaul
community and promote the Division of Mission and Ministry; relates warmly to
others, in particular to those who are seeking assistance and is very customer
service oriented.

An interest in one’s own and others’ spiritual
and faith development and respect for those whose spiritual or religious
traditions may differ from your own.
·
Possess good organizational and administrative
skills with an ability to prioritize tasks and solve problems.
·
Mature, proactive student who is equally
comfortable taking direction, working alone and with others, and tackling new
tasks and responsibilities.
Hours Requirement/Schedule:
This position is somewhat flexible but, the person holding
it will be expected to work between 15 and 20 hours per week during the
academic year. The office is open Monday-Friday 9AM-5PM. Occasional evening and
weekend hours will be required for this position.
Reporting Structure:
The Loop Community Service Coordinator reports to Tom Judge,
a Chaplain in the Division of Mission and Ministry. This includes regular
meetings.
