Dear CSL
students,
I wanted
to take a moment and connect with you directly as the coronavirus (COVID-19)
continues to impact our local and global communities. As you know, Governor
Pritzker announced all public and private schools will be closed beginning
March 17-March 29. Additionally, social distancing and teleworking capabilities
are being highly encouraged. As such, DePaul University has moved to remote
learning for Spring Quarter.
We
continue our commitment to bring you the best educational experience possible.
We recognize the difficulty these new circumstances bring to you, especially to
our third-year students who are completing their internship hours and their
graduate experience. We pledge to provide you with clear and consistent
information and appreciate your flexibility as we care for one another and our
collective safety.
You will
be receiving messages directly from your instructors regarding the exact format
of your scheduled Spring classes and the University has created a central webpage
with all relevant information on COVID19 at http://go.depaul.edu/covid.
Please
know your wellbeing and safety are our top priorities and will continue to be
at the heart of all we do. As counselors we are called upon to use our unique
skill sets to lift up our communities in times of crisis and need. As our
namesake, St. Vincent DePaul asked, “What must be done?,” I invite you to rise up to answer that call
in creative and compassionate ways. I
encourage you to practice the foundational principles of our
profession—kindness, adaptability, and integrity—as we face these uncertain
times together.
Lastly,
while the impact of this situation continues to evolve, we take solace in the strong
and dedicated community at DePaul. We are all part of one big extended
family—take good care of yourselves and of each other.
Best,
Dr.
Ockerman
