Penedo Summer Camp


Counseling students!!- the ECC needs your help volunteering for the Penedo Summer Camp!!! The camp begins July 10th until August 16th; Tuesdays and Thursdays 11:30-2:30.
What is needed? Counseling students who are willing to facilitate weekly art projects, weekly psychoeducation topics (on topics relevant to girls/adolescents/wellness/health/internet safety/friendship/empowerment/etc...). You can volunteer for just 1-2 hours presenting a particular topic, or volunteer for 1-2 hours facilitating a particular art project. Or- you could volunteer to be the weekly art facilitator on the day and time of your choice. We will also have "cinematherapy" where we will show relevant movies with discussion- you could volunteer for that!
If you are not sure what you want to help with, but you know you want to help- there is definitely a spot for you!! You do not have to be at the entire camp to volunteer for something!!!
Remember- it looks great on your resume, and Dr. Mason gives great recommendations for facilitators! ;)

Job Summary

Provides specialized individual and group career counseling in an effort to assist students-athletes in developing the competencies required to become informed about the choice of a major, career options, and opportunities related to their personal and professional objectives, and to make informed decisions concerning career goals. Selects, administers, and interprets career assessments. Shows initiative, enthusiasm, and dedication to helping student-athletes reach their career goals. 

Responsibilities*

Counseling (80%)
  • Provide career development and job search counseling to University of Michigan student-athletes in both individual and group settings, decided and undecided students.
  • Serve as a liaison for the MACC office, providing career counseling and outreach to current student-athletes.
  • Conduct regular outreach efforts including workshops and presentations to current student-athletes.
  • Educate student-athletes on all employment and internship opportunities relating to their major, year and interests.
  • Provide career assessment and interpretation to undecided students through assessments offered in Handshake, Focus2, Strengths Quest, and MBTI.
  • Deliver career coaching services through a range of approaches, including individual, drop-in, and group appointments, workshops and other programs.
Outreach and Collaboration (20%)
  • Develop strong relationships with the internal athletic department programs including Academic Success Program, Compliance, Development, Leadership Development, Coaches and Sport Administrators.
  • Develop collaborative partnerships with University career service programs within all schools and colleges.
  • Develop a general knowledge and understanding of the related professions represented by UM programs in all Colleges and Schools and maintain familiarity with the education, training and career opportunities and expectations of each.
  • Work closely with other staff members in the planning and coordination of career outreach and programs such as job fairs, career programs, and employer panels.
  • Maintain ongoing professional development via involvement with relevant professional associations such as NACE, N4A and University Career Services Network.
  • Participate in recruiting presentations as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Education, Counseling, Social work or related field.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in career counseling, coaching and advising college students (undergraduate and/or graduate) in one-on-one and small group setting.
  • Experience in resume writing, cover letters and developing personal statements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to a diverse group of coaches, staff, administrators and student-athletes.
  • Proficient in interviewing skills and the ability to guide student-athletes through the interview process.
  • Ability to effectively present information to large groups.
  • Strong organizational skills  and ability to accomplish multiple tasks efficiently and in a timely manner.
  • Familiar and experience with CRM career platforms (Handshake, Simplicity).
  • Experience with social media (Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook).
  • Demonstrate an appreciation of, and a sensitivity to, cultural differences.
  • Willingness to work evening and weekend hours, as needed.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Master’s degree in student affairs, counseling, social work or related field including broad-based study and research in student development and career counseling.
  • Knowledge of NCAA, Big Ten  and University rules and regulations.

The College of Engineering seeks applicants for the position of Coordinator, Engineering Career Services. Reporting to
Assistant Director, Engineering Career Services, this position provides career management services for College of
Engineering students and employers. Specific duties and responsibilities include:

 Provide professional career advising and counseling to students in the College of Engineering through individual
meetings and workshops on topics such as career preparation and search plans, resume reviews, mock
interviews, job offers and negotiations.
 Educate and provide direction to students regarding professional work opportunities and employment trends
and provide a wide variety of career information and materials.
 Maintain student records of the meetings and student progress.
 Assist in developing career education and instructional materials, workshops and programs for engineering
students, student organizations, and departments focused on communicating employment information to
students.
 Work as a member of a team to plan, organize and implement career events and publications for students and
employers, including special events such as career fairs, meetings, receptions, resources and speaker programs.
Assist in collecting internship and full time employment data.
 Collaborate with staff members in the College on special projects related to Career development and advising.
Maintain a professional, service‐oriented environment for students and company representatives.
 Use social media and virtual technologies in the communications and delivery of services to students.
 Organize and manage special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
 Bachelor’s degree
 One year of professional work experience in a recruiting, HR, career services, or academic advising environment
 Excellent interpersonal skills and effective communication skills
 Knowledge of the job market and career search processes and strategies
Preferred Qualifications:
 Master’s degree
 Experience advising students in a University career services office
 Experience working with students, including international students
 Knowledge of job market for college students and engineering disciplines
 Knowledge of career assessment tools
 Highly proficient with web‐based resources, software (MS Word) and social media (LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.)
 Strong organizational, time management, communication, presentation and project management skills

The Coordinator, Engineering Career Services position is a full‐time, benefits‐eligible academic professional position

Career Services Generalist
• Provide professional counseling to students on an individual basis, in support of their
career decision-making process, to positively impact their academic outcomes and
