·  The position lasts 10 weeks from June 22 - August 28. Coordinators will start June 18th

·  All candidates must attend mandatory orientation and training on June 22 and June 23
·  Counselor-Mentors will earn $20 per hour and Coordinators will earn $25 per hour for 25 hours per week

Job Title: Summer Acceleration Counselor-Mentor and Counselor-Mentor Coordinator
Unit: Office of Student Support and Engagement
Reports to: Strategic Projects Manger
Position Overview:
Summer Acceleration is a summer school program for approximately 1,200 students who are 15 years old but did not graduate from elementary school.  The goal of the program is prepare students academically and socially for high school.  Students who successfully complete the program will receive an eighth grade diploma. Summer Acceleration will take place from June 29 through July 28, and consists of a reading and mathematics curriculum and social emotional guidance lessons. The social emotional lessons will be led by CPS School Counselors.
 
Summer Acceleration Counselor-Mentors will assist Summer Acceleration Counselors with implementation of the social emotional guidance lessons, mentor students, and ensure the completion of Individualized Success Plans in order to facilitate the transfer information about students between Elementary and High School Counselors. At the end of the summer, Counselor-Mentors and Coordinators will have the opportunity to continue supporting a student on their caseload by serving as a Next Generation mentor as the student transitions to ninth grade.

Responsibilities of the Counselor-Mentor:
·         Provide counseling and mentoring support to a caseload of ~25 Summer Acceleration students
·         Facilitate the articulation of knowledge about Summer Acceleration student issues and needs between Elementary School and High School Counselors
·         Based on knowledge gained during articulation activities, complete the attendance, behavior, and post-secondary sections of the Individual Success Plan required for all students
·         Assist Summer Transition Counselors with the implementation of the SEL classes (as a part of Freshmen Connection (if applicable)
·         Conduct outreach calls to ensure identified high risk students are in attendance on the first day of school.
·         Create End of Summer Summary for each student on caseload that will be shared with HS counselors

Responsibilities of the Counselor-Mentor Coordinator:
·         Provide oversight and guidance for approximately 10 Counselor-Mentors
·         Assist Strategic Projects Manager in selection and training of Counselor-Mentors
·         Offer input on structure and protocols to guide Counselor-Mentors in supporting students in collaboration with Office of School Counseling and Post-Secondary Advising (OSCPA)
·         Ensure completion of Individualized Success Plans and End of Summer Summary by all Counselor-Mentors

Additional Requirements:
All Counselor-Mentors and Coordinators are required to attend orientation on June 22, 2015 and the citywide Summer Acceleration training hosted by OSCPA and the Office of Teaching & Learning (T&L) on June 23, 2015.  Both sessions are mandatory.

Timing of the Program:
Summer Acceleration Counselor-Mentor and Coordinator positions will last 10 weeks.  The position will begin on June 22, 2015 and end on August 28, 2015.  Coordinators will start on June 18, 2015.

Salary:
Counselor-Mentors will earn $20 per hour and Coordinators will earn $25 per hour for 25 hours per week.
