Coronavirus Stress has upended life. The Academic Success Center in COE is here to help!
Things may feel
out-of-control right now. You may be facing a lot of unknowns, disruptions and
anxious feelings. This may be the first time you are taking courses online. Try
to be patient with yourself, your classmates, and your instructors during this time.
We are all in this together.
How Can the College of Education Academic Success Center
Help?
Your stress may
be alleviated by taking advantage of an Academic Success Coach who can offer
practical strategies for time management, organization, executive function, and
focus, skills in high demand while working from home during this pandemic.
Some of your
challenges may include:
- Transitioning from being able to be out and
suddenly being stuck at home.
- Adjustment to moving back home under
parent’s roof after being independent.
- Managing unstructured time with other people
around or alone.
- Keeping motivated to complete work and
school assignments amid at-home distractions and without the structure of
attending classes.
- Carving out a private space to study and
work, and dealing with interruptions and boundaries.
- Coping with major changes in plans and
goals.
- Finding the time for self-care and exercise.
- Maintaining strong connections with friends
and family.
- Managing intense emotions of fear, sadness,
and frustration.
ASC staff are
available to work closely with you to outline what you need to succeed, with a
special focus on organization, executive dysfunction, dealing with anxiety and
other challenges that can get in the way of meeting goals.
You can set up a
meeting with one of our coaches by emailing ASC@depaul.edu. Please include your email and
phone number and one of our staff members will contact you to set up a meeting
time. We will meet with you weekly through Zoom with opportunities for
communication via email between sessions. You may choose to meet only once or
twice or continue throughout the quarter depending on your needs and desires.
