Northern Illinois University’s Counselor Education &
Supervision. The Ph.D. degree
in Counseling Education and Supervision (CES) offers advanced professional
preparation for those intending to become counselor educators (university
professors), supervisors, researchers, and practitioners
in academic and clinical settings.
The Northern Illinois University Doctorate of Philosophy
in Counselor Education and Supervision program has been nationally
accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational
Programs (CACREP) since 1989!
The CES Faculty provide knowledge and mentorship in areas
of research, clinical supervision, and classroom instruction. The faculty
at NIU are a diverse group of educators with a
breadth of clinical practice and teaching. Their scholarship consists of state,
regional, national, and international presentations as well as research and
publications on topics related to career counseling, trauma, grief, LGBTQ
concerns, group counseling, and race and resiliency.
The program is designed to help students develop
awareness, knowledge, and skills in CACREP’s five counselor education domains;
counseling, supervision, teaching, research, and professional leadership.
The program faculty in concert with current students, work
collaboratively to create a collegial and collaborative community of
acceptance, mentorship, and professional networking within the university and
the counseling profession at the state, regional, and national level.
