    Grayslake Community High School District 127 has an  opening for a Student Assistance Program Coordinator for Grayslake North High school.  District 127 is located in GrayslakeIllinois.  The district serves approximately 2900 students in grades 9-12 in two high schools with more than 300 certified and educational support staff members.  
     
    Responsibilities:
     
    The job of Student Assistance Program Coordinator is done for the purpose(s) of coordinating all aspects of the student assistance program including student intervention, prevention, and staff development; serving as a resource for student, staff and parents on substance abuse education; developing/maintaining relationships with outside referral sources; and acting as a liaison for the community and parents regarding at-risk student behavior and prevention programs.
     
    Qualifications:
     
    • Valid Illinois licensed clinical professional counselor, licensed clinical social worker, or Illinois Professional Educator License with school counseling or school social worker endorsement
    • Certified Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Certification (CADC) preferred
    • Previous experience as a high school Student Assistance Program Director or Coordinator preferred
    • Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication
    • Demonstrated excellence as an educational leader with strong organizational, problem-solving, and human relations skills
     

    Essential Functions:

     
    Direct Service:
     
    • Act as a resource to students who are concerned about their own drug/alcohol use or that of another student
    • Act as a resource to staff and faculty members who are concerned about a student’s possible drug/alcohol use
    • Act as a supportive resource to parents who are concerned about their own child’s suspected drug/alcohol use or that of another student
     
    • Provide individual and group counseling to students
    • Provide case management services for students in treatment programs
     
    • Work closely with the School Nurse, Athletic Director and the SAP Core Teamto provide appropriate interventions for identified students
    • Coordinate communication with Police Officer Liaison, Dean of Students and the Associate Principal for Student Services with concerns about students
    • Provide appropriate in-school and community resources to students and families when necessary
    • Coordinate with Freshman Transition sponsors to offer prevention programming for students
    • Maintain a positive working relationship with community treatment professionals
       

       
      Programs
     
    • Facilitate weekly SAP Core Team meetings (develop agenda, distribute information to members, take minutes, etc.)
    • Coordinate student programs related to depression/suicide/teen dating violence, etc.
    • Coordinate student prevention programs with Athletic Director, Assistant Athletic Director, and Activities Director
    • Coordinate Snowball, SADD activities, Red Ribbon Week activities, Healthy Relationships Week, First Responder Appreciation Breakfast, and other activities as needed, etc.
    • Speak at Athletic Night, Freshman Parent Night, Parent University, and Athletic Sport Team Meetings, Pre-Prom Information Events
    • Plan student assemblies on related topics and coordinate with building administration
    • Coordinate the Illinois Youth Survey for students
    • Provide information to Board of Education through biannual presentations or as needed
       

       
      Faculty and Staff Training:
    • Provide in-service training to faculty and staff (including coaches)
    • Present information to faculty and staff on mental health issues, substance abuse issues, and the Student Assistance Program
    • Act as an available school representative and resource within the school for students and faculty
    • Work with staff to provide resource assistance and classroom instruction in existing health curriculum
       

       
      Liaison Responsibilities:
    • Act as an available school representative and resource outside of the school
    • Represent the school district in community substance abuse prevention efforts through active participation in community organizations
    • Function as liaison to student groups within the school
    • Participate in monthly SAP roundtable meeting
    • Participate in community activities related to drug prevention
    • Attend and provide resource assistance to student Code of Conduct meetings
    • Coordinate with athletic department to evaluate and improve the Athletic Code
    • Work with school social workers in regard to drug/alcohol referrals and student support groups
    • Acts as a liaison to feeder schools and their prevention programming
