Summer Internship Opportunity

Position: Summer Welcome Week Intern at Loyola University Chicago

This is a part time position from May 1st - August 31st. 

Some of the responsibilities of this position would include the planning, execution,  and evaluation of Loyola University Chicago's Welcome Week program alongside the professional staff members of the Department of Student Activities and Greek Affairs (SAGA)

Ralph Martire, the Director of the Center for Tax and Budget Accountability, a well-known and respected state and national policy expert will present a critical analysis of the state of public school funding in Chicago and Illinois.  


In an era of  budget cuts, teacher layoffs, the erosion of programs and services for children, and increasing inequity in resources, the forum will offer students a deeper understanding of the challenges and possibilities of providing a well-resourced quality education for all children.

Ozanam Scholarship Program

The Office of Mission and Values is currently searching for qualified scholarship applicants for the 2014-2015 academic year. The Ozanam Scholarship provides graduate school tuition for students who have been actively involved in advancing the Vincentian mission as a former Vincentian Volunteer or similar role. Additional requirements of the scholarship are:
• Possess and maintain a cumulative and a quarterly GPA of at least 3.0 while at DePaul University 
• Volunteer a minimum of 8-10 hours per week at a designated service site
Approx. 240-300 hours per academic year 
• Participate in reflection sessions with other scholarship recipients 
• Serve as representative of the Office of Mission and Values

For the fifth consective year, the DePaul Counseling program will make its trip to the state Capitol in Springfield, IL. In collaboration with several Illinios state associations, participants will join other counseling professionals to lobby for important bills that impact the profession and clients. Training materials and further instructions will be provided by Dr. Mason one week before the event, and additional training and a compliementary lunch will be provided upon arrival in Springfield. While this trip targets counseling professionals and students, anyone interested in mental health and education legislation is invited to attend.

Rena McDaniel, a DePaul Alumni (class of 2013), is currently serving as the Director of Outreach and Operations, as well as a staff therapist, at IntraSpectrum Counseling. Less than a year after graduating, she has gotten a director position at a private practice, presented to a room of 60+ professionals at a local hospital, been asked to do a training for a consortium of interns of three major LGBTQ organizations, developed and serves at head of the coaching department for Fortune Training & Coaching, and has a standing coffee date with Viktor Frankl’s grandson!

Ralph Martire, the Director of the Center for Tax and Budget Accountability, a well-known and respected state and national policy expert will present a critical analysis of the state of public school funding in Chicago and Illinois.  Martire will discuss issues of adequacy and equity in funding and offer solutions to the question of how we can pay for the education all children deserve.

In an era of  budget cuts, teacher layoffs, the erosion of programs and services for children, and increasing inequity in resources, the forum will offer students a deeper understanding of the challenges and possibilities of providing a well-resourced quality education for all children.

We must as a nation, and in our states, launch a renewed effort to eliminate the stubborn and persistent resource disparities and inadequacies that drag down American public schools. Now is the time to take the bold and courageous action to make certain that all of our students have access to the meaningful educational opportunities that they and the nation must secure.
