Scholarship Opportunity

As a way of promoting positive change, Springboard Recovery has decided to offer scholarships to students of qualifying two and four-year colleges.

Springboard Recovery College Scholarship

Students attending a two or four-year university program may apply for Springboard Recovery’s college scholarship by following the instructions below.

Springboard Recovery specializes in working with adults and adolescents struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. While we work to help people in recovery, we also would like to help those who seek the benefits of higher education.

All undergraduate and graduate students in the fields of behavioral health and addiction-related studies are invited to enter our Behavioral Health Scholarship Program, with the following financial incentives:

  • First Place = Prize $3,500
  • Second Place = $1,000
  • Runner Up = $500

How Do I Enter?

There are 2 available options to choose from to enter our scholarship program:

  1. Write an original 2,000-word essay (the topic is your choice from three possible questions listed below)
  2. Create an original comic strip (this year’s theme is: “Drug and/or alcohol abuse in young people today”).

Essay Entry Option

Please write an original* 2,000-word essay based on one of the following essay questions:

  • What makes someone an addict? Is there a difference between experimentation, abuse and addiction?
  • How does addiction affect those close to the addict, ie. family and friends? What can be done to help a loved one suffering from addiction?
  • Does current pop culture glamorize the use of substances, and actively encourage young people to experiment?

*Please note that all essay entries will be checked for plagiarism.

Comic Strip Entry Option

  • Create an original* comic strip on the following theme:
  • Drug and/or alcohol abuse in young people today.
  • One-shot comic – 2 pages minimum, 6 pages maximum.
  • Style: Free
  • Illustration: Original color or black and white
  • Read direction: No obligation – optional
  • Important – Your project must be adapted to an audience of all ages

Application Requirements:

Springboard is seeking applications from current U.S students who:

  • Are enrolled in post-secondary education in the second semester.
  • Are not a Springboard Recovery employee or related to an employee of Ashwood Recovery
  • Age 18 and older

Application Deadline:

  • Applications are accepted from January 1 – November 1 every year. Any application received after the November 1 deadline will not be accepted.

Winner Selection:

  • The winner of the next SpringBoard Recovery Behavioral Health Scholarship will be announced on December 1, 2020. Scholarship money will be sent via mail by check.
