The Restorative Justice
Committee (RJC) under the International Association of Offender and Addiction’s
Counseling (IAOOC) – ACA is being reestablished and looking for emerging
leaders passionate about Restorative Justice premises. If at all interested in
becoming involved with restorative justice principles, please reply to this
email.
The RJC is focused on
advocating for a justice system that repairs instead of punishing. RJ sees
offending behaviors as a disruption in relationships and works to heal the harm
caused by the behavior.
Below is a description of
the positions available:
Secretary:
The tasks and
responsibilities of the Secretary include, but are not limited to, the
management of the Committee’s email account, creates and distributes meeting
agendas and meeting minutes, notifies Committee members of pertinent
information, and keeps a record of all of the Committee’s activities.
Overall, the Secretary performs duties as directed by the Committee Chair and
Co-Chair.
Subcommittee
Leaders:
Responsible for rallying
subcommittee members around the carrying out of the responsibilities of their
respective subcommittee. Leaders will also share updates/concerns with the
Committee Chair. Below are the following subcommittees:
Partnerships/Outreach:
Responsible for locating
and partnering with local and national organizations whose purposes align with
RJC’s mission.
Research:
Responsible for searching
for and documenting research projects. The research projects must involve
substance use related issues, mental health, and restorative justice
principles. The research projects may be carried out by RJC members and other
individuals/entities.
Resources:
Responsible for searching
and documenting resources that aligns with RJC’s mission. Resources include,
but are not limited to, peer reviewed journals and non-peer reviewed journals,
books, websites, and videos.
Social
Media/Website Management:
Responsible for creating
and maintaining RJC’s social media outlets (e.g., website and Facebook).
Webinars:
Responsible for searching
and/or creating webinars that promote the awareness of substance use related
issues, mental health, and restorative justice principles.
