The University of Notre Dame (www.nd.edu) is accepting applications for an Assistant Director –
Undergraduate Career Services for Engineering. The
Assistant Director strategically participates in student programming across
functions for the Center for Career Development, involving employer engagement,
program directors, and operational team, as appropriate. Leadership of specific
student programming initiatives will be expected – usually this will be in
regard to the industry area of expertise, though it is not restricted to it.
Currently the industries for this particular opening are but could change
depending on need: Engineering- Aerospace, Automotive, Biotechnology,
Chemicals, Construction, Civil/Environmental, Energy, and Manufacturing. The
incumbent will serve as one of the liaisons to the College of Engineering which
includes regular meetings with the Faculty and Staff of the College.
Responsibilities
include:
• Conducts individual student appointments
related to all career development topic needs, while serving as an
industry focus leader in the College of Engineering.
•
Connects
with career counseling colleagues within the department to successfully partner
on programs, workshops, and other career events.
•
Participates
in regular Career Counseling meetings and large departmental events, maintains
up to date
appointment notes, and provides
leadership in industry focus area.
• Covers walk-in hours as needed.
Participates in employer development related to area of expertise, collaborating
with Employer Engagement team for
priorities.
•
Attends
employer visits to the Center for Career Development to stay aware of trends
and opportunities.
• Maintains profile in Go IRISH and utilizes other
job search engines
to facilitate sharing
of information with students.
• Provides leadership to an array of student programming (mentorship programs, networking events, industry nights,
etc.) in conjunction with industry
expertise area, academic liaison roles, and other topics of interest.
•
Serve
as an administrator for IrishCompass Industry Groups related to the position’s
assigned industries. This includes discussion generation, posting resources,
addressing issues and collaborating with other administrators within the group.
• Participates in major departmental
programming (career fairs, etc.) in support of student participation and
successful outcomes.
•
Represents
the Center for Career Development across campus and in professional
associations/community organizations.
•
Performs
other duties as assigned by the Director to ensure the success of the Career
Development Center, the
University, students, and other
stakeholders.
The Assistant
Director will serve as a generalist across all areas of career development in a
career counseling capacity for undergraduate students. This would include
working individually with students on choosing a major, conducting a job/internship/graduate
school search, preparing resumes/cover letters/graduate school applications,
and conducting assessments.
The
Assistant Director position is expected to serve the department as a leader
with respect to several industries of interest to the student body. Liaison
roles to academic areas or other facets of the University may be assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Knowledge of engineering and/or STEM
career opportunities.
• Appreciation for centralized
undergraduate career services model.
•
Understanding
of NACE professional standards and career development theory.
• Exhibits strong ethical standards in an
effort to advocate for all students.
• Advanced communication, program
evaluation, and outcomes development skills.
•
Desire
to contribute ideas toward the success of the overall undergraduate career
services program essential.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•
Experience
working with recruiters from engineering and/or STEMorganizations.
• Experience in career counseling with an
emphasis on engineering and/or STEM fields.
•
Masters
in Career Counseling; Counseling and Human Services; Student Affairs; or
related program preferred.
•
Certifications
for specific career assessments also preferred.
