The Counseling Program is excited to announce a new course that will be available this upcoming Winter intersession! It will be CSL 482 Special Topics: Juvenile Justice and will take place November 28th through December 16th. This course will provide Master’s students the opportunity to work with residents of the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center (JTDC) through six sessions at the center. These sessions will follow lesson plans pertaining to career development and self-awareness.
This opportunity is unique and will offer a great experience for future counselors in any concentration. The course will require face-to-face meetings the entire week of Nov. 28th to Dec. 2nd. Required training will take place on Monday, Nov. 28th from 8:30am to noon at the JTDC, the remaining days of the week will be on campus from 5:30pm to 8:45pm.
Students will also teach at the center on 12/5, 12/7, 12/9, 12/12 12/14 and 12/16 from 2:30pm-4:30pm. In addition, there will be online components of the course. An application, due by November 1st, and a background check with the JTDC are also required.
