Tutor Job Description
The Athletic Academic Advising
office at DePaul University is looking for two graduate students to serve as
academic assistants and tutors for DePaul University student-athletes. These
two positions will work primarily with Men’s Basketball and Women’s Basketball
student-athletes, but may also assist with other students and responsibilities
like front desk coverage as needed.
The estimated weekly work load is
around 6-12 hours/week, paid at $12/hr. The anticipated start date is Monday,
September 12th. Please note that this is not a graduate
assistantship.
Main Duties Include:
Working closely with freshmen and
transfer student-athletes to ease the transition to college and empower
academic success
Providing support to academically
at-risk student-athletes through skill development (time management, study
skills, note taking, etc.)
Facilitating team study table
sessions and ensuring required hours are completed
Assisting students with writing
skill development, paper editing/proofreading, planning, and researching
Collaborating with Women’s
Basketball Academic Advisor and/or Men’s Basketball Academic advisor to best
support student-athlete progress and improvement
Following all NCAA and DePaul
University rules/guidelines for academic integrity and compliance
Preferred Qualifications:
Current DePaul grad student
enrolled in a College of Education Master’s program
Excellent communication skills and
ability to build strong relationships with students from diverse backgrounds
Experience tutoring, teaching,
coaching, and/or motivating students to excel academically
Working knowledge of
student-athlete populations
