Volunteer Reading Tutor
Fact Sheet
We are currently seeking reading tutors to
participate in a coaching and teaching experience during the Summer I session.
Under the supervision of their instructor, graduate students enrolled in their
final course in the Reading Specialist program, “Leadership and Professional
Development in Literacy”, will provide training and serve as your mentor and
coach as you provide one-on-one instruction to a struggling literacy learner.
If you are selected for one of
the four positions, a volunteer must commit to the following:
- Attend orientation in the Education and Counseling Center (COE 101) on Wednesday, June 17th from 5:30-6:45.
- Prepare for and provide tutoring services to a client from 5:30-6:45 twice a week (Monday and Wednesday) for four weeks (June 22 to July 15). Preparation for each client session will involve approximately 30 minutes.
- Participate in a post-session debriefing with reading coaches from 6:45-7:00.
- Communicate with coaches via email on a weekly basis.
- Communicate student progress with parents at the conclusion of the experience.
